tl;dr: FRANK-386 is an i386 PC emulator firmware for RP2350-based boards (Raspberry Pi Pico 2) that boots DOS, Windows 3.x/95, and Linux with up to 8MB PSRAM, VGA/HDMI output, SD card storage, and sound emulation (AdLib, SB16, PC Speaker, etc.). Based on Chunhui He's Tiny386, it supports PS/2 or USB input, NES gamepads, and runtime disk swapping, and works on FRANK, Murmulator, Olimex PICO-PC, and Waveshare RP2350-PiZero boards.
HN Discussion:
  • Amazement at running a full 386 PC emulation on a cheap microcontroller
  • Nostalgic reminiscence about the era of 386 PCs, Slackware, and old software
  • Concerns about performance limitations due to RP2350's limited SRAM and PSRAM access delays
  • Questions seeking technical clarification about emulation approach or feature support (RS232, printer ports)
  • Practical inquiries about which board to buy for demoing or building
